Outdoor education influences young people’s preparedness for their future by building and harnessing vital skills to ensure they are real world ready. Students need to be engaged in designed learning to prepare them with skills such as collaboration, communication, critical thinking and creativity.

The General Manager Outdoor Education Vic is a senior leadership role in outdoor education in one of the world’s largest providers. You will provide inspirational leadership to the Victorian delivery and operations team, as well as the broader organisation.

Your primary attention will be focussed on ensuring Victorian operations achieve the expected business outcomes.

ROLE OVERVIEW

As a member of The Outdoor Education Group Outdoor Learning Division and a direct report to the Executive Director of Outdoor Education, you:

Take responsibility in the scope of your role for the performance, reputation and growth of The Outdoor Education Group.
Work collaboratively with your colleagues to manage and support day to day activities.
Role model passion for the benefits of outdoor education for the development of young Australians.
Role model The Outdoor Education Group values of respect and taking responsibility for self, others and the natural world.
Support the implementation of key strategies and actions that support the achievement of The Outdoor Education Group’s strategic vision and objectives.
Participate in and support the overall work of The Outdoor Education Group.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

As the General Manager Outdoor Education Vic, you:

Stay in tune with delivery in the field to ensure OEG and client outcome expectations are met
Champion change and lead the team in provision of contemporary sector leading programs
Seek out and implement improvements to increase efficiencies in all aspects of program delivery
Excellent planning and preparation to minimise program variation post contract
Onboard the team with the product and program model to include a range of categories from signature (packaged) to fully bespoke
Embed experiential learning as the primary program teaching/learning framework
Increase the focus on program impact through solidifying staff familiarity with venues and programs rather than seeking new and novel locations
Lead innovation to increase access to our programs to a broader client mix

KEY CRITERIA

To The Outdoor Education Group you bring the following:

Tertiary qualification in Outdoor Education, Education, or other relevant discipline
Demonstrated extensive (8 - 10yrs +) experience in developing and delivering exceptional Outdoor Education programs in a journey-based context
Demonstrated ability to provide inspirational leadership to a team across multiple functions to build a cohesive business unit
Strong business acumen leading to achieving sustainable business outcomes
Highly effective communication skills, both interpersonal and written, with the ability to provide high level of customer service internally and externally
A collaborative working style, ability to work as part of a team and demonstrate a proactive approach to engaging internal and external stakeholders
Flexibility and responsiveness and the initiative, attitude and ability to thrive within a dynamic, challenging and changing environment
Attention to detail with a demonstrated ability to develop processes and systems to achieve both operational and strategic goals
